July and August witnessed new records for the number of bednights at Wiley House (Our House’s emergency shelter for adult men and women). July saw 329 bednights while August saw 342. This averages out to eleven persons each night; up significantly from the 2012 average of eight per night. Identifying an exact reason for the increase is difficult but the ongoing lack of affordable housing in Fulton and Callaway County certainly plays a role. Wiley House’s annual number of bednights has increased significantly each year since opening in late 2009. That upward trend is likely to continue. Wiley House has served 64 different individuals thus far in 2013.
